This is the heart of our commitment. When we founded Qwant, we were convinced that search engines, like all other players in the digital world, have a special responsibility: to guarantee the right to freedom of expression and free access to information, while protecting its users from malicious content, especially terrorist or violent content.

Like around the world, we were horrified by the terrorist attack in Christchurch and we share the grief of New Zealand and the families of the victims. As a French company headquartered in a capital that has experienced similar tragedies on several occasions, as a European search engine that carries our common values, these events have strengthened our will to act with determination for a better future.

That’s why Qwant, along with the Wikimedia Foundation, Twitter, Microsoft, Facebook, Amazon, Google and Dailymotion, today joined governments following the Christchurch Call to eliminate terrorist and extreme violent content from the web.

The call outlines the collective and voluntary commitments of governments and online service platforms to prevent Internet abuse. It recalls that our actions ” must be consistent with the principles of a free, open and secure Internet, without compromising human rights and fundamental freedoms, including freedom of expression “.

This call to action is a unique opportunity to make progress in protecting a free, open and secure Internet. We look forward to working with governments, civil society and business partners to share our expertise and initiatives for this cause.

Since its creation, Qwant has been committed to addressing the concerns of European citizens who want their values and fundamental rights to be promoted in the services they use on a daily basis.

[35,46
37,36
post-714","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-better-web-en","category-qwant-news-en-2","tag-fr-en","tag-opinion-en
